 I knew very little about the Holocaust growing up as I wasn’t born Jewish and I was fearful of going there. But when I saw Claude Lanzmann’s documentary Shoah, I had an almost visceral response and I knew I had to begin my own journey of learning about it. It has been a huge privilege to have a glimpse into the lives of these extraordinary people. Each story is unique and needs to be honoured and recorded. Lucy Chipkin Lucy records written and oral testimony for survivors of the Holocaust for the Sydney Jewish Museum. Lucy sees her role as that of bearing witness to the genocide of approximately six million European Jews during World War II, a programme of systematic state-sponsored extermination by Nazi Germany throughout Nazi-occupied territory.
